An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer system and functions as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System which acts as a host for the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions feature three Linux releases which you can choose from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being totally free, the OSs are very stable and protected and the primary reason to offer all 3 of them is to make sure that you can run every app that you would like, because different pieces of software may have different requirements about the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a large community of web developers who have developed many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to control your website hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need a different OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on the machine as different apps can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and risk-free web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
